A Westmeath councillor believes it would help people keep their indepedence.
Giving grants for mobility scooters would help people keep their independence.
That's according to Westmeath Fianna Fail councillor John Shaw, who also believes local authorities should be able to administer the funding.
Currently, the national mobility grant scheme allows older people and people with disabilities to carry out basic work to address mobility issues at home.
Councillor Shaw says the current scheme should be extended to include scooters:
