A midlands TD is calling for an end to "overly restrictive" and "ridiculous" regulations for the awarding of medals to soldiers.
Currently, if no application has been made by colleagues and comrades within two years of the incident taking place, the claim is considered void.
One particular case was cited where an Irish soldier was killed in Lebanon 24 years ago, who ensured his comrades were in the bunker first.
