5th Year students could be sitting English and Irish Paper 1 in the first year of the cycle, in a bid to reduce the number of exams taken at the end of 6th year.
Concerns have been raised due to the maturity levels of male students, which could see them put at a disadvantage to their female counterparts.
But Mullingar Counsellor Betty McLoughlin thinks the change may be beneficial:
