They are accused of withholding information regarding the investigation into Ashling Murphy’s murder.
Closing speeches have concluded in the trial of four members of Jozef Puska’s family, accused of charges arising from the Ashling Murphy murder investigation.
His brothers, Marek and Lubomir Puska, are accused of withholding information from the investigation team, while their wives are on trial for assisting an offender.
The prosecution claims Marek and Lubomir Puska did not have a “reasonable excuse” for withholding information from the team investigating Ashling Murphy’s murder.
They’re accused of doing so to protect their brother Jozef from being apprehended and prosecuted for what he did.
Among the final arguments put forward yesterday on behalf of Marek Puska, was that there was a risk of self-incrimination.
Today, Lubomir Puska’s barrister suggested her client didn’t withhold the information, but rather delayed disclosing it.
She said he initially didn’t believe it, but when he finally came to terms with what his brother did, he was “squarely supportive of the prosecution.”
In their closing speeches, the barristers for Jozef Puska’s sisters-in-law, Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gazoiva, urged the jury to acquit on the grounds that their clients didn’t know what he had done when they burned his clothes in the fireplace.
