The Department of the Environment has confirmed that a clothing and footwear repair voucher scheme will be piloted next year as part of an EU directive requiring an Extended Producer Responsibility scheme for textiles.
Under the scheme, clothing retailers and other textile producers will be required to cover the costs of collecting and managing used clothing and to ensure that items are made available for reuse wherever possible.
