A 'no car day' could be coming to a midlands town. 

Green Party councillor Hazel Smyth is proposing that no cars would be allowed in the Mullingar Town Centre for a day during a public bank holiday in the summer.

The proposal did not receive much support from her council colleagues, with many being concerned about rural isolation and the impact it would have on businesses.

Cllr Smyth says she is keen to try out the idea:
