Coronavirus: Over 20,000 New Cases Confirmed

PCR testing is being suspended for most people under 40.

PCR testing is being suspended for most people under 40 unless they get a positive antigen result -- after a record 20,554 more people tested positive for Covid-19 today.

People with symptoms are now asked to self-isolate and take "regular antigen tests" -- with the Department of Health saying it needs to make "best use of available testing capacity".

Health workers, people with an underlying condition and infants and toddlers under four will still be referred for a PCR test if they're symptomatic.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the HSE will start home deliveries of antigen kits after the New Year weekend.

Labour Leader Alan Kelly says the government has some way to go to regain public confidence.
