Midlands councillor Thomasina Connell will be the first to avail of new legislation when it's passed by the President.
Introducing maternity leave is a step towards removing the perception that being a councillor is a 'man's job'.
That's according to See Her Elected, which is welcoming the legislation expected to be signed off by the President this week.
