Counting Deer Population Is Expensive - Laois CEO

The deer population seems to be increasing every year.

Controlling the deer population in the Midlands is an expensive and complicated process.

That's according to the CEO of FRS Co-Op, which assigned local coordinators to lead 15 newly established Deer Management Units across Ireland last year.

The Irish Deer Commission reported a record 78,000 wild deer were culled between February 2022 and February 2023, a 30% increase compared to the previous year.

Camross' Colin Donnery says deer numbers across the country are increasing year on year.

He says it's difficult to determine a precise number, but there are several methods that could be used to establish a more accurate figure:
