Deposit Return Scheme Money Would Be Better Spent On Anti-Litter Campaign - Former Senator

An extra 15c-25c has been added to the price of bottles and cans.

Money invested in the deposit return scheme would have been better spent on anti-littering campaigns.

That's according to former Fine Gael Senator from Westmeath, Gabrielle McFadden, who says it won't make much of a difference.

The scheme includes an increase of 15c to 25c on bottles and cans, with the aim of returning them and getting the money back - but only on items with the specific return marking.

Ms McFadden says she doesn't think people will bother going back to use the reverse vending machines:
