Deputy Principal Of Offaly Gaelscoil Highlights Need For Irish Secondary Schools In Midlands

There's currently none in Laois, Offaly or Westmeath according to Department of Education figures.

An Offaly deputy principal is expressing concern the Department of Education doesn't fully understand the benefits of Irish secondary schools.

New figures from the Department of Education shows the entire Midlands region currently offers none for students finishing up primary school in a Gaelscoil.

Ailbhe Ni Churraoin is the Deputy Principal of Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr.

She says plenty of students are capable of continuing their education in Irish:
