A total of €1 million is being made available for the Clondara to Mullingar section of the Royal Canal Greenway.
The development will be the longest Greenway in the country totalling 130km in length and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
The facility will be promoted as part of the Hidden Heartlands campaign and will attract up to 30,000 tourists in its first year.
