€2.5 million in national roads funding has been allocated to the N4 Mullingar to Rooskey project.
It's part of a wider €633 million funding boost for national roads across the country announced by the Department of Transport.
The project had previously been on the National Development Plan in 2008 before being removed from the plan and later re-instated.
Other big investments announced for the Midlands include €1.8 million for the Birr Distributor Road and €55,800 for the N77 in Portlaoise.
