Almost €40m worth of peat is being exported from Ireland despite there being no legal commercial peat extraction operation in the country.
The Irish Times is reporting over 370,000 thousand tonnes of of peat were sold to 21 countries last year.
While exports to Israel totalled 23,000 tonnes, worth over €3m.
Last year an EPA report highlighted multiple sites in Offaly and Westmeath where suspected illegal extraction has been taking place.
