Eight Legal Aid Certificates Issued In Laois Amid Solicitors’ Boycott

Eight of 179 certificates issued in Laois since courts returned from their summer breaks.

Laois is one of 13 counties that have seen solicitors secure legal aid certificates in a break away from The Law Society's official position.

According to new figures from the Irish Independent, eight certificates were issued in Laois from a total of 179 in the four days since court returned from their summer breaks.

It comes after Portlaoise District Court Judge Andrew Cody branded the boycott by solicitors as "disgraceful" during the summer.

The dispute stems from the introduction of a new flat fee payment model in July, which prompted mass resignations from the legal aid panel.
