The incident took place at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar.
Emergency services have attended the scene of a hospital fire alert in Westmeath.
The incident occurred around 8am this morning in the Sterile Services Department at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar.
Patients were evacuated, after the hospital detected smoke in a compressor within the department.
The HSE is confirming no patients or staff have been injured in the incident.
Affected patients are now being returned to their wards, and services are operating as normal once again.
