A Government Minister says the Good Friday Agreement is clear on when a border poll should be held.
It follows comments from UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who said a referendum on Irish unity is “off the table”.
Under the Agreement, the Northern Ireland Secretary must call a poll if it appears likely a majority in the North would vote for a united Ireland.
Enterprise Minister, Longford-Westmeath TD Peter Burke says the terms are clear, but believes a simple 50-plus-one majority would not be enough to deliver lasting unity:
