Expert Calls For Long-Term Planning As Hosepipe Ban Extended

The ban has been extended by Uisce Éireann until the end of September.

An expert is calling for more long term planning to tackle the problem of water shortages.

A nationwide hosepipe ban in place since late last month has been extended in 13 counties, with the ban lifting tomorrow for 13 other counties.

Uisce Éireann extended the ban until the end of September for Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, saying that the supplies need more time to recover.

The ban came into effect as Ireland's prolonged spell of hot, dry weather put water supplies under pressure.
