Family Carers Ireland is calling for an end to means test and an introduction of new carer payments.

The charities pre-Budget submission, Building a Caring Society, is centred on nine pillars of change shaped by the experiences and concerns of family carers.

A recent report found that 71% of family carers are struggling to make ends meet, with the charity urging the government to increase the weekly carer payments to €325.
