Laois County Council is currently finalising the purchase of The Old Savoy Cinema in Portarlington.
It's not known when the premises which featured in the 1992 film 'Into The West' closed its doors for the final time.
Independent Councillor for Portarlington Aidan Mullins sits on the board for the existing centre on Canal Road which is at full capacity.
He says it's the most likely outcome for the site:
