Voting gets underway at 6:30pm from the Killeshin Hotel.
Fianna Fáil members are gathering in Laois this evening to select a new county councillor.
The convention, is taking place at the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise and will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Cllr. Padraig Fleming.
Voting is scheduled to open at 6.30pm and will close at 8pm, with the result expected shortly afterwards.
Four candidates are contesting the position: Elva Kelly, Joey Kennedy, Ross Molloy and Willie Ramsbottom.
The successful candidate will take their seat in time for this month’s meeting of Laois County Council.
