Fire At Proposed Refugee Accommodation Condemned

85 Ukrainians were due to be housed at the site.

An independent councillor in Longford has condemned a fire at a convent building in Lanesboro which was earmarked to house refugees.

Two fires were started at the front and back entrances of the building, which was due to be an accommodation centre for 85 Ukrainians.

The owner of the building has now pulled out of the arrangement.

Councillor Mark Casey says there were rumours and misinformation spreading online, and some people were angry it wasn't repurposed for apartments:
