Former Midlands Barracks Suggested As Site For Ukrainian Accommodation

A former midlands barracks is being considered as an accommodation site for Ukrainian refugees.

It comes as over 40 new-arrivals were denied accommodation over the weekend, as the State ran out of capacity. 

A suggestion to establish prefabs at Columb Barracks in Mullingar will be considered by Coalition leaders, the Housing Minister and the Equality Minister at a meeting later.

Cormac Quinn of the Irish Times says there's no easy option for the government:

A suggestion to accommodate Ukrainian refugees in prefabs at a former midlands barracks has been labelled a 'crazy idea.'

The Columb Barracks Restoration and Regeneration Committee has proposed housing the refugees inside the barracks instead.
