A former midlands Junior Finance Minister could've been the leader of the Progressive Democrats.

Tom Parlon was a Laois Offaly TD for the party between 2002 and 2007, before becoming Director General of the Construction Industry Federation.

But he was offered the opportunity to become a Senator and lead the PDs by then-leader Mary Harney, before he left a career in politics.
