She's received abusive phonecalls and online trolls send her messages.

A former member of Offaly County Council is speaking out about the abuse she received while in office.

Sinéad Dooley resigned as a Fianna Fáil councillor in 2017 after 13 years of service.

She's been speaking out about the abusive phonecalls and online trolls she was subject to, as well as once being spat at going into a council meeting.

She says the experience was harrowing, but it's getting worse for politicians with the advent of social media:
