The collapse of the devolved institutions in Northern Ireland is expressly against the interests of the people.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is making the comments ahead of his visit to Mullingar this evening where he'll be delivering a talk on the Good Friday Agreement.

The Stormont Assembly has been inactive since the DUP withdrew First Minister Paul Givan from the Executive in a protest move over the Brexit protocol.
