Martin Greene has been remembered this morning by the Athlone community.

"Goodness personified"   - that's how a Westmeath teenager is being remembered this morning at his funeral.

15 year old Martin Greene got into difficulty while swimming in Lough Ree on Saturday, with his mass taking place in Our Lady Queen Of Peace Church in Coosan..

Father Padraig Kelleher officiated the mass today, describing the type of person that Martin was to his family and the wider community:

The crest of his favourite football club Liverpool was on the coffin, which was also painted red to represent the colours of the club.

Mourners also wore red as per the family's request with matching decorations in the church.

Members of Martin's local team St Francis Football Club also attended wearing their blue and white jerseys.

They brought gifts up to the altar, including a trophy that Martin won for Player of the Year at the club,a pair of his football boots, his phone and a Playstation controller.

One of his coaches at St Francis David Walsh says he had a lot of energy on the pitch:

Martin will be laid to rest this afternoon at Coosan Cemetery.
