A former UK police inspector has said it will take at least two months for Garda driving instructors to train up in pursuits.
It follows an announcement that Garda instructors will follow the English model of the practise, following two recent incidents of cars driving the wrong way, on the M9 last Sunday, and on the M50 the week before.
Retired police inspector Mark Watkins says Garda instructors will have to take special driving courses for at least seven weeks, followed by lessons in tactical pursuits, before they return to Templemore College to train members.
