A new Garda recruitment campaign gets underway today. 

It's hoped 1,000 new recruits will be hired and trained by the end of this year. 

New measures to help those applying are also being introduced including early advice on the fitness test, a buddy system, earlier vetting and online engagement with candidates. 

There will also be extra advertisements over the coming weeks to target recruits from underrepresented groups.
