The incident took place in St Peter's Terrace in Athlone yesterday morning.
Gardaí investigating an aggravated burglary in Westmeath have arrested two men in their 20s.
The incident occurred at a house in St Peter’s Terrace, Athlone, yesterday at approximately 4:00am.
A man in his late teens and a woman in her 50s were conveyed to Portiuncula University Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening at the time.
A technical examination of the scene was conducted.
The two men are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in the county.
