It took place yesterday afternoon in Portarlington.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances around a potentially suspicious approach of a child in Laois.
It's believed the man approached while driving a car and said something to the child on Main Street in Portarlington yesterday afternoon at around 2.30pm.
The child, who is believed to be around 10 years old, fled the scene.
Gardaí are uncertain if the approach was malicious at this point of the investigation.
