Gardaí Patrolling Shooting Threatened Schools

It comes after emails were sent warning of 'blood in the halls'.

Gardai will be conducting high-visibility patrols outside 42 primary schools in Carlow today.

It's after a threatening email was sent to a number of schools yesterday.

Just after 7 o'clock yesterday morning 20 schools in Co. Carlow received an email.

It threatened a mass shooting event, warning of 'blood in the halls'.

A number of schools who received it opted to close - notifying parents the decision was being taken in the interests of the safety of students and staff.

Gardai met with each of the schools involved yesterday and have set up a specialist investigation team at Carlow garda station.

They say the threatening email is believed to have been routed through another country and the credibility of the message is still being investigated.

Lines of communication have also been opened at a 'senior level' with the Department of Education.

Gardai will have high-visibility patrols outside all 42 primary schools in Carlow today, and in the days ahead.
