Gardaí Waiting On Investment To Protect Members From Assault

Figures published today reveal the extent of assaults on gardaí.

Investment in garda resources would significantly reduce the number of assaults on gardaí.

Figures in today's Irish Examiner show there have been more than 400 assaults on gardaí in the past two and a half years, with some members being forced out of work for six months or more as a result.

However, the Garda Representative Association says the reality is even worse as a large number of assaults go unreported.

Westmeath representative of the GRA, Conor Staunton, says this shouldn't be part of the job - and feels it's directly related to a lack of resources:
