The date coincides with the summer solstice,June 21st.
This Sunday will mark Global Motor Neurone Disease Awareness Day.
The awareness day has been marked since 1997, with the date June 21st picked for the summer solstice which symbolises light and the resilience of the global MND community.
In Ireland, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease association has been running the Voice for MND campaign to raise €21,000 for caregivers.
