Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill opened a new extension to the emergency department in Portlaoise Hospital.
The Minister for Health is in Laois to open a newly extended emergency department in the county.
The extension delivers a stand alone pediatric service at the entrance to the ED at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill says the department is already delivering far better patient outcomes than many across the country.
She says there's still a lot that can be done to improve the hospital overall:
