The rate of homelessness in the midlands has surged by over 20% in the last month.
224 people were without permanent accommodation in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath in September, according to new figures from the Department of Housing.
The figure represents a 21% rise in homelessness across the three counties after back to back months of minor decreases.
157 adults accessed emergency accommodation in the region last month, 76 in Westmeath, 49 in Offaly, and 32 in Laois.
47 children were also registered as homeless in the midlands in October.
Nationally, 14,966 people were without permanent accommodation last month - the highest figure on record.
