HSE CEO Defends Ambulance Response Time In The Midlands

He accepts that unacceptable incidents have occurred but says they're the exception rather than the norm.

The head of the HSE is defending the National Ambulance Service after concerns were raised over its ability to assist midlands patients.  

Paul Reid was replying to the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee Chair, Laois/Offaly TD Brian Stanley, who highlighted a number of occasions where injured people were left without emergency care. 

The Executive's CEO said such incidents shouldn't happen, but they are the exception rather than the norm. 

He says the system as a whole functions very well:
