That's the view of Sinn Féin Midlands North West MEP Chris MacManus, after sharp exchanges in the Dáil over the plans.
At the moment, deploying more than 12 Irish troops overseas requires a UN mandate, as well as Dáil and Government approval.
Changes proposed by the government aim to remove the veto power of UN security Council members over Ireland's overseas missions.
