Increase In Population Due To Asylum Seekers "Huge Challenge" To Absorb

That's according to a midlands TD.

It is a "huge challenge" for society to absorb the increase in population that asylum seekers bring, according to the Minister for European Affairs.

Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke says they are aiming to reduce the time it takes to adjudicate on someone's right to stay from almost years to 12 weeks.

There was a 1000% increase in the number of people presenting in Dublin airport and ports across Ireland looking for asylum between January 2021 and 2022.

Deputy Burke says the economy would collapse if we didn't have people moving here:
