A number of checkpoints are already scheduled around Laois and Offaly.
Motorists in the midlands will see an increased Garda presence on the roads from today onwards.
As part of the Christmas Road Safety Operation, Gardaí in Laois and Offaly say a number of checkpoints will be carried out this week.
In the first week of the operation, there were five non-serious injury incidents in the two counties, and 11 vehicles were seized.
60 checkpoints were also conducted.
