Increasing Numbers Appearing In Court Over Drug And Dangerous Driving

There were over 2,000 last year.

The number of people appearing before the courts for drug and dangerous driving has been increasing year on year.

Statistics released to the political party Aontú show 48 people were in court for drug driving offences in 2019, this figure rose to 587 in 2020, 1,735 in 2021 and 2,248 last year.

During the first 6 months of this year, over 1,500  people have appeared in court on Drug driving offences.

Meath West TD and Aontú Leader, Peadar Tóibín says the number of Gardaí policing the roads has dropped by 36% which is at an all time low:
