Independent Commission Set Up On Future Of Defence Forces

It'll be tasked with drawing up a report with a year.

An independent commission on the future of the Defence Forces is being set up. 

The group will be tasked with drawing up a report within 12 months, and will be chaired by Aidan O'Driscoll, a former secretary-general of the departments of justice and agriculture.

Security and defence analyst, Mullingar's Declan Power, says, it's long-overdue, to develop a longer-term frame-work for the organisation.

While most recently, the Defence Forces have been hit with a recruitment and retention crisis, Mr. Power says, the Commission should focus on the wider vision, rather than one particular problem:
