"Ireland Is Becoming A More Violent Place, Especially For Women"

That's according to a midlands TD after over 50,000 calls of domestic violence were reported to Gardai last year.

Almost 54,000 calls - reporting domestic violence - were responded to by gardaí last year.

It was a near 10% increase on 2021 figures, and a 40% rise on the 2019 number.

The figures were released by the Justice Minister in response to a question from Aontú leader, Peadar Toibin.
