We're still "miles away" from tackling the problem of drug use effectively in prisons.
That's the view of former Portlaoise Prison governor John Lonergan, after an incident in which nine prisoners overdosed in Midlands Prison on Friday.
Reports suggest a toxic batch of drugs was dropped into the facility which resulted in what's being described as a 'mass casualy event'.
One inmate remains in a coma after the incident.
The Irish Prison Service says it's "committed to preventing the access of contraband, including drugs, into prisons".
