It's expected to take five weeks to complete.
Irish Water is starting essential watermain improvement works in Laois today.
It's in an effort to safeguard supply and increase water pressure to homes and businesses in the Church Avenue area of Stradbally.
The works will provide new service connections for customers directly affected by the replacement of 850 metres of old leaking watermains - and are expected to take five weeks to complete.
Irish Water says some short-term water shut offs may be necessary but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours notice.
