Their wives have been found guilty of assisting Josef Puska in burning clothes he was wearing when he murdered the 23-year-old schoolteacher in 2022.
Jozef Puska’s wife, two brothers, and their wives, will remain on bail as they await sentence for offences arising from the investigation into Ashling Murphy’s murder.
His wife admitted withholding information that could have assisted gardai in bringing her husband to justice, while the others were convicted by a jury today.
Just before a jury was sworn in to hear this trial, Jozef Puska’s wife, Lucia Istokova, admitted withholding information from gardai during her early dealings with them in the days after Ashling Murphy’s murder, including that he had admitted to killing, or seriously injuring, a woman with a knife.
The trial got underway in her absence with the media prohibited from reporting on her plea until the work of the jury was done.
That work concluded this afternoon with Jozef Puska’s brothers, Marek and Lubomir, convicted of also withholding crucial information from the investigation team.
Twenty minutes after they were convicted, the jury found their wives, Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gazoiva, guilty of assisting Jozef Puska by burning the clothes he was wearing when he stabbed the young schoolteacher to death.
All five will remain on bail ahead of their next court appearance on July 7th when a date will be set for their sentence hearing
