Laois And Offaly Among Top Counties In Forest Cover

About 11% of the entire country is covered by forest area.

Both Laois and Offaly rank among the top five counties in the country in terms of forest cover.

The latest CSO figures show around 16% of both counties are covered by forest area.

Westmeath is in the bottom ten in the country, at just over 9%.

Leitrim is the county with the highest proportion of forest area in the country, at over 20%.

Cork, meanwhile, has the largest forest area, with almost 92,500 hectares.

The whole country has about 808,850 hectares of forest area, about 11.6% of the total land.
