The latest CSO figures show around 16% of both counties are covered by forest area.
Westmeath is in the bottom ten in the country, at just over 9%.
Leitrim is the county with the highest proportion of forest area in the country, at over 20%.
Cork, meanwhile, has the largest forest area, with almost 92,500 hectares.
The whole country has about 808,850 hectares of forest area, about 11.6% of the total land.
