Over 120 people were arrested for driving under the influence.

A major Garda Roads Policing Operation comes to a close today after the bank holiday weekend.

There were two fatalities on the roads on Sunday in Leighlinbridge in Carlow and Fincashel in Donegal.

Just over 2,700 drivers were caught speeding, including a motorist in Laois clocked at 127km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R428 in Kylebeg, Stradbally.

And another in Offaly recorded at 126km/h an hour in a 100km/h zone on the N52 in Screggan.

While a total of 121 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
