That's according to the latest crime statistics.
Incidents of crime against the person saw an increase in a midlands county.
Laois crime statistics show that cases were up to 128 in the first quarter of this year, 15 more than over the same period in 2022.
Assault causing harm was up to 27 cases, compared to 23 last year. Assault minor also saw an increase to 81 cases, from 72 last year.
Cases of harrassment remained the same at 3 cases.
There was a dramatic increase in the number or murder threats, to kill or cause serious harm, 12 cases up from just 2 last year.
Almost all of those cases involve people who are known to one another.
