The planet has been named WISPIT 2b.
A Laois astronomy student is part of a research team that's discovered a whole new planet.
It's been named 'WISPIT 2b' through a collaborative study between University of Galway, Leiden University and the University of Arizona.
Portlaoise's Jake Byrne is a co author of the paper and Masters student in Galway, who measured the height and geometry of the 3D discs in the planet's system.
Mr Byrne says it's an important measure of how it may form over time:
